'DJ Tillu' Movie Review

There is no other film in recent times which created as much of a buzz as 'DJ Tillu'. Starring Siddhu Jonnalagadda and Neha Shetty as the lead, this interesting flick raised a lot of expectations with its songs and trailer. The dialogues by Siddhu caught the attention of the public and let us see how this youth-oriented movie turned out to be.

Story:

Bala Gangadhar Tilak who changed his name to Tillu (Siddu) is a DJ who earns a living through playing in small functions. He is a happy-go-lucky man who is happy with his life and lifestyle. Radhika (Neha Shetty) enters into DJ Tillu's life and gets closer to him. Radhika recently broke up with her boyfriend Rohit (Kireeti). Knowing about her liking towards Tillu, Rohit arrives to argue with Radhika and he gets killed unexpectedly. Tillu gets finds himself stuck in the middle of everything and what happens after that forms the rest of the story.

Analysis:

Shows like 'Jabardasth' and others have affected the comedy genre badly. Previously, a lot of comedy films used to entertain the audience but with the arrival of these shows, people are getting bored if the same type of comedy is showcased in movies too. The writers are now looking for ways to produce entertainment that is beyond the reach of popular comedy shows. In the process, they are coming up with crazy stories which appear senseless on paper. They defy logic but such films have a lot of madness which is being liked by the current generation audience. Despite having loopholes and a lot of flaws in characters, such movies are becoming successful due to the crazy madness which they provide in theatres. 'Jathi Ranalu' is the best example for this and 'DJ Tillu' is a similar kind of movie. If we can connect with the madness of the lead character, you will enjoy the film to the core, provided you ignore the story, logic and seriousness.

The trailer gave a perfect idea of what to expect from 'DJ Tillu' and the team delivered it perfectly. The biggest attraction of the movie is Siddhu Jonnalagadda who connected with the youth through 'Krishna and His Leela'. His styling, dialogue delivery in typical Hyderabadi style and songs will definitely be liked by the youth. The initial half exceeds your expectations and entertains you highly. We get used to DJ Tillu's character right from the moment go and his build-ups, mannerisms and dialogues are quite impressive. The audience will be in splits after hearing his dialogues in Hyderabadi urban slang. The character gets connected to the younger generation instantly and it works in the favor of this movie.

'DJ Tillu' is a comedy film which revolves around murder. Heroine kills a guy accidentally and invites the hero to his house. Tillu leaves a birthday function and goes to her house enthusiastically. He goes crazy below the apartment as the heroine invites him but the viewers who know what's going to happen next will be laughing uncontrollably. His reaction after realizing the real situation is priceless. This thirty-minute episode itself is worth your ticket price. All you need to do is to connect with the 'DJ Tillu' character and you will be heavily entertained. Along with the comedy, the story moves at a decent pace in the first half.

Had the second half been at the same level as the first half, 'DJ Tillu' could have reached greater heights. But it is not the case as the screenplay wavers a lot and the logic goes for a toss. The silly scenes bring the graph down and even the hero's character looks clueless and gets a bit serious. Similar to 'Jathi Ratnalu' is filled with silly scenes in the second half and it even has a court scene just like Naveen's movie. These non-serious scenes did not work out and brings down the film drastically. Despite Siddhu's best efforts to lift the tempo at the end, the second half leaves a lot to be desired. But the fun generated in the first half is not easy to forget and the lackluster second half can be excused because of it. 'DJ Tillu' can be given a go because of the hero's character, Siddhu's acting and dialogues.

Performances:

Siddhu Jonnalagadda is trying to create his own style among the current crop of young heroes. He will be liked by the audience who loved him in 'Krishna And His Leela'. Siddhu will be making some new fans with 'DJ Tillu' and a lot of people who are familiar with Hyderabadi urban slang will connect to his character. 'DJ Tillu' completely relies on him and he delivered brilliantly.

Neha Sharma improved a lot in all aspects compared to her previous outings. Her character looks interesting initially but becomes regular as the film goes on. Brahmaji entertains a lot and Prince Cecil is fine. The actor who played the hero's father did quite well and the rest of the actors are okay.

Technicians:

Sri Charan's music is good and 'Pataas Pilla' stands out among them. Ram Miryala's 'DJ Tillu' title song is one of major highlights of this movie. Thaman gave wonderful background scores and the way he used the title song is commendable. The cinematography is well executed as the lighting for some scenes are very creative. The production values are quite high despite being a small film. The story is too silly at times and the film runs on the characterization of the hero and his dialogues. Siddhu must be given his due credit as a writer and Vimal Krishna showcased his talent in dealing the comedy scenes though he struggled when it comes to story narration.
